The map below shows specialist provision across the East Midlands. We have estimated the EHCP pupil capacity of state special schools, independent special schools, and mainstream schools with resourced provision or an SEN unit, across the region.
East Midlands Specialist Provision
The map below combines data from Edubase and school censuses to show the specialist provision across the East Midlands. We are aware of issues with the quality of this data as it relies on accurate reporting from schools (see information on data source below the the map).
To get the most from this map:
- Use the filters on the right-hand side to display different local authorities and phases of education
- Hover over the dots on the map for additional information about each school, including data on resourced provision/SEN units
- The table on the right-hand side shows the estimated number of EHCP pupils in special and independent schools, and the estimated number of pupils in resourced provision or SEN units in mainstream schools
Source: This is based on data reported by schools in Edubase as at September 2025 (often based on the previous academic year) and from the January 2025 school censuses for independent schools and state-funded schools. In some instances, capacity or EHCP roll data is not available. Due to this poor data quality, we have estimated EHCP pupil numbers in different ways for different types of school. For example, in some cases we have used resourced provision and SEN unit capacity/roll instead of the reported number of EHCP pupils.
