Mime has collaborated with the Open Data Institute (ODI) and Frontier Economics to produce a report and data tool, launched today, that highlight the gaps in government and third sector data when it comes to knowing who is going hungry, where they are, and what is being done about it.
The Food Insecurity and Data Infrastructure report shows that more could be done when it comes to the availability and collection of data around food poverty and those impacted by it. While we do know that there is marked variation in food insecurity across demographic groups and geographical areas, the report demonstrates the gaps and confusions that limit just how useful the existing data can be. We join the ODI in their recommendation that steps are taken to develop a standard measure of food poverty, to enable more accurate measurement and better targeted solutions.
The report is accompanied by a digital tool, developed by the team here at Mime, which looks at the current open data held at national and local authority level across England. This data is presented alongside a map of support locations, using data generously provided by the Trussell Trust and FareShare.
